The Artist-Blacksmith's Association of North America (ABANA)
is dedicated to perpetuating the noble art of blacksmithing. A blacksmith is one who shapes and forges iron with hammer and anvil. ABANA encourages and facilitates the training of blacksmiths; disseminates information about sources of material and equipment; exposes the art of blacksmithing to the public; serves as a center of information about blacksmithing for the general public, architects, interior designers, and other interested parties.

Announcing the 2018 ABANA Conference Poster Contest

Submission Deadline: June 1, 2017

This is a contest to choose a Poster/LOGO/Tee-Shirt Design for the 2018 ABANA Conference in Richmond, Virginia

What are the Rules?

Who can participate?
Anyone who is over 18 years old is invited to submit his or her original artwork

What is the Prize?

Two free passes to the conference.
This does not include transportation, lodging, and meals; or additional family members registration.

Interviews with the winner will be published in The Anvil’s Ring and on the ABANA web site.


Submit any 2-D medium or digital image file: tiff, psd, jpg, or PDF.
Be sure to include your name, address, phone number and email with your submission.


Final full size is 18" x 24", portrait or landscape
Individuals submitting 2-D medium design must submit a scanned PDF/jpg file of their 2-D medium following the guidelines for digital files.

For digital files:

The finished Size should be 18" by 24", portrait or landscape
Designs may be created in InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator. Do not create a design in Word.

tiff or psd files must be at 300 dpi at the full size;

jpg files must be saved at the maximum quality setting, maintaining the 300 dpi at the original full size

PDF must be created without compression, all images at 300 dpi of the original file. PDF must be editable(unlocked)

All fonts must be rasterized in the tiff and psd files, and embedded in the PDF.

Learning from the Past, Forging to the Future

Keep in mind that the theme of the conference is: Learning from the Past, Forging to the Future

Deadline for Submissions: June 1, 2017

The idea is to create a body of biennial art posters that are suitable for framing and collecting. The all artists must give copyright permission to ABANA to use their design. For all submissions, a poster will go into the Conference auction to raise funds for ABANA.

Who Judges the Submissions?

All of the submissions will be displayed on the website, www.abana.org.

Anyone can visit the website and vote for the poster that they like best. The poster receiving the most votes will win. One need not be an ABANA member to vote. Voting to start after the June 1, 2017 Deadline, stay tuned for details! Winner to be announced after voting closes on July 15, 2017.

How can you vote?

You will need an email invitation to vote. These invitations will be sent to all who are signed up to receive Emails though ABANA's Constant Contact. Anyone can vote. If you want to vote you will have to sign-up to receive ABANA Constant Contact emails. To do so scroll to the bottom of this or any ABANA website page and select the Sign Up Now button, and follow the instructions that will require you to enter your email address, name and as a minimum your City, State, Country, and Zip/Postal Code. Once you have signed up you should receive an email invitation to vote after the submission deadline or within one day if you sign up for Constant Contact after voting begins. Once you vote, if you don't want to receive any additional emails from ABANA Constant Contact, you can click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the Voting Invitation Email or any other Constant Contact email you receive from ABANA.
