Forging Academy
In our high school blacksmithing and coppersmithing programs, students experience the raw, elemental power of the forge. Using traditional tools and techniques, they heat, shape, and refine metal into beautiful, functional objects—learning firsthand how strength, patience, and craftsmanship come together.
Our hands-on course connects students with centuries of human ingenuity while fostering a strong sense of purpose, responsibility, and pride in their work.
Blacksmithing at Bob’s dates back to when teacher Wes Horner set up a small shop by the administration building. He taught blacksmithing as an evening activity in the summer sessions of 2021 and 2022. The program expanded when alumnus Jesse Steindler, who taught at a school nearby, helped Horner set up four forges in a shed at the north end of the campus, near the old Headmaster’s house, where classes were held for several years.
