ABANA National Curriculum Level III Grille Zoom Class: The Water Leaf
Are you considering the ABANA National Curriculum Level III grille or interested in expanding your blacksmithing repertoire? This two-night Zoom class will cover the tooling and techniques required to create the water leaf, one of the more challenging elements of the Level III grille.
The first session will cover the tools needed to create the water leaf: the crimping stake, the leafing stake, and the general-purpose leafing hammer, with lots of helpful tips and tricks along the way.
The second session will take an in-depth look at the development of the water leaf, found in the Level III grille drawings. Using the tools learned in the previous night’s lesson, we will focus on spreading the material for the leaf in a controlled manner, shaping it into an anti-clastic form, and finishing with elegant, symmetrical crimping along the edges to bring the leaf to life.
This class will be taught by ABANA National Curriculum Instructor Ryan Belanger.
This Zoom is scheduled for back-to-back evenings on Wednesday, July 9 and Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 8-10 p.m. ET (5-7 p.m. PT).
Price: $40 for ABANA members (you must be signed in to get the discount)
$50 for non-members
Space is limited!
Sessions will be recorded so students can review the material when they get into their own forges. ABANA will hold these advanced intensives throughout 2025, focused on individual elements of the Level III grille. These sessions are most appropriate for the intermediate/advanced blacksmithing student.
