NOTE: These are “real world” explanations for the checkboxes contained in Section 1 below. Please choose carefully, as we must follow up on the requests made. We try to view these requests at least quarterly, if not monthly, but the task falls to a single person. We appreciate your patience!

Right to be Forgotten is a request to erase all information attributed to you from our files. In many cases, the information we have is related to your ABANA membership and fulfilling our financial obligations to members (ie: Delivery of magazines). The Right to be Forgotten would include canceling your membership. We will not cancel based on a checkmarked box (in case it was in error). We will reach out to let you know that if you do wish to exercise your Right to be Forgotten and cancel your membership, please call the office at (814) 254-4817. If you simply wish to no longer receive our emails (monthly newsletter, event info, etc.), you can unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of every email or email your request, and we will manually unsubscribe you and delete your email information. Note: Once unsubscribed, we cannot email you again unless you voluntarily subscribe (meaning we cannot add you back to our email list manually; it must be done through the system to verify we have your explicit permission to communicate).

Request for Access means we are required by law to send you a copy of all information contained in our files.

Right to Data Portability requires that we send a copy of all information contained in our files in a machine-readable format (typically a CSV file).

Limit Sensitive Data applies to the right to know what sensitive data is being used for secondary purposes, which ABANA does not do. This request option is available to you through the California Privacy Rights Act, however we have nothing to report because we aren’t using data for any secondary purposes.

Do Not Sell My Info is the most self-explanatory opt-out option, however the name of it is a little misleading in our case. ABANA does not sell your info in the classic sense of receiving money for your information. Years ago (during the days of catalogs), ABANA used to allow schools or suppliers to purchase ABANA’s mailing list, but that is no longer the case. In digital terms, it is considered “selling” to allow another website or app to track what pages you view (most often to tailor ads to your preferences). We are not currently running any third-party ads on our website and, if we do in the future, the cookie/privacy app will automatically disallow any tracking once you’ve selected Do Not Sell My Info. We do, however, currently utilize Google Analytics to see what pages are popular with viewers and which ones are not. Everyone’s data is anonymized, so we cannot see that you specifically viewed this particular page or that particular page.  The reports we get show that 14,000 people visited our website in the past 30 days and 2,879 viewed the National Curriculum landing page, and 929 viewed the Discounts page, and so on. However, this is still classified as “selling”, so you are given the option to opt out. There is no data to be reported because we simply don’t have any.
