Sucker Rod Giveaway

3/4″ sucker rod repurposed from the oil industry is considered a great option by blacksmiths for forging hand-held tools because it is readily available, affordable, and the right size and type of steel for our purposes (hand held tools need to stand up to having one end in hot metal and the other end being whacked by a hammer, so we are asking a lot here). Generally speaking, the sucker rod used by the oil industry is 4140, 4130 or something similar which works well for what we need. It is particularly useful to the blacksmith for forging hand-held toolssuch as the chisels, punches, and drifts in Level I of the ABANA National Curriculum.
That said, not everyone lives near an oil well, so that’s why we are doing Sucker Rod Saturday!!! What is Sucker Rod Saturday? ABANA will send the winner of the giveaway a box of 3/4″ pre-cut sucker rod that includes what you need for the Level I Curriculum hand tools plus a few extra (because you always need to make more tools!).
